Letter from the Director

Dear Student Centers and Programming Services Staff member:

Welcome to the Student Centers and Programming Services staff for the 2009-2010 school year.  This promises to be an exciting year for all of us at Syracuse University. Returning and new students, faculty, staff, and administrators will present themselves to you and look for your best effort in helping them find their way or receive a service we offer.  Your work efforts will play a key role in setting the tone for the campus community. To assist you in your work efforts, we will present to you our new customer service standards program “CAPS” (Communication, Appearance, Problem Solving). This program will provide the foundation where “U” are the key to our success.

As a department, we are charged with many responsibilities.  An important focus of our work efforts will be on you our student employees.  We are committed to a student employee program that creates a learning environment that promotes student learning and academic success.  We recognize that each one of you is a developing individual, and we value you as a student.  Your input is needed for our programming and services to be successful in both centers.  Did you know that 13,000 people enter the Schine Student Center and enter the Goldstein Student Center daily?  Remember that as a student staff member of SCPS, you are an ambassador for both centers.  Be aware of your responsibility to deliver the highest possible quality service to our many customers.  This is a main goal in all of our operations.  We look to you as the life-blood of our department.

College Unions/Campus Centers started out literally as the “union” of 3 debating societies at Cambridge University in England, and has evolved into being known as one of the places on campus where all members of the campus community (students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and guests) can come together both formally and informally to get to know and better understand one another.  Through your work, you will help us cross the bridges that we build together to form our community.  We will pass the light on to you so that you can teach others to cross those same bridges.

We ask you to put your “heart and soul” into your work the hours you are working with us.  We will have a great year as we have identified strong staff members. Get to know one another and work together as teammates to support and help each other.  Participate in our learning environment and develop meaningful “life skills” critical to your life after graduation.

On behalf of the rest of the “full timers” who work on our staff, “WELCOME!”  Be the best you can be both in your academic work and in your employment with us this year.  You are the “key” to our success!

Sincerely,
Bridget M. Yule
